Bread of Compassion was founded in 2005 to mobilize medical teams and serve those who did not have access to medical care in Haiti. Over the years, Bread of Compassion expanded and provided the opportunity for more than 1500 individuals to serve on humanitarian trips across the globe and make a tangible difference in the lives of some of the people living in the poorest areas of the world. In 2012, Bread of Compassion began to refocus its work to provide ongoing support for two main projects, a school outreach in City Soleil, Haiti and a leadership training in Rome, Italy.

Past Projects of Bread of Compassion

  • Kenya, Africa

The largest Bread of Compassion team ever was sent out to Africa. Over 70 people volunteered their time to serve. Bread of Compassion constructed an orphanage facility in one of the largest slums in the world. The team also hosted medical clinics and provided hygiene education to the people living in the slums of Kenya.

  • Guatemala City, Guatemala

Bread of Compassion Traveling Teams partnered with local community leaders and helped construct a new facility for an overcrowded school. They also taught the children about basic hygiene and disease prevention. The Traveling Team journeyed into the city slums to feed, clothe and educate some of the 30,000 families that live in or near them.

  • New Orleans, Louisiana

Bread of Compassion Traveling Teen Teams traveled to New Orleans to help those devastated by Hurricane Katrina. In just one week, the all-youth team gutted an entire home, landscaped yards and distributed school supplies to local children. The Traveling Teen Team also helped renovate a men's drug and alcohol residential facility.

  • Andes Mountains, Peru

Bread of Compassion partnered with local leaders of the Limatambo people to host a dental clinic and provide dental care. People visited from all over the region. Traveling Teams also worked with local orphanages to provide hygiene education.

  • Copper Canyon, Mexico

Bread of Compassion teamed with local Tarahumara leaders and distributed 20 tons of food , including rice, beans, cornmeal, sugar, oil, pasta and salt to those in need. The Traveling Team also cooked and served hot meals to 1,4000 Tarahumara people.

  • Okeechobee, Florida

Bread of Compassion worked with Real Life Children's Ranch, a long-term foster home for children who have been abused and neglected. While there, our Teen Traveling Team repaired homes, landscaping and helped on the working ranch.

  • Hyderabad, India

Bread of Compassion teamed up  with Agape International Orphanage, a home for HIV infected children.  While there, Traveling Teams helped build a permanent dental clinic and provided free dental care to the children.

Our Supporters

  • I have never felt so useful, inadequate, challenged, blessed and humbled all at the same time as I have on the BOC mission trips. What we accomplish is small, in comparison to the needs that surround us but we do it with great love and for a few we change their world.

    Nancy Stevens, RN

  • All of my life I've dreamed of being able to make a difference and help those who truly need it. But, never did I have the opportunity to really reach out and help people on a personal basis the way I did with BOC. When I went on a medical trip to Haiti, I was able to really feel like I had accomplished something great. We were able to give love and medical care to those that are unfortunately unable to get either. We might not have helped EVERYONE but we did help over 1,400 people in one week, and every little bit counts. If you share a similar dream, I encourage to join up with us and help one person at a time, one step at a time, one day at a time.

  • My week spent with BOC ministering to the people in Haiti was rewarding, challenging as well as a blessing. I hope I was able to give to the Haitian people as much as they gave to me.
